Starting July 1, 2025, any passenger who visits a Mexican port will pay a fee of $42, which highlights the escalating cost of cruise travel to Mexico. This fee reflects significant increases compared to typical Caribbean port charges.
Despite the temporary respite from the tax, the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association emphasized that more comprehensive measures are essential to mitigate the tax’s adverse effects on cruise tourism, Mexico’s economy, and local communities.
The new fee represents a 213% increase over the average cost at Caribbean ports, which may deter cruise tourism and significantly impact families visiting the region.
While tourists crossing land borders remain exempt, the newly proposed tax raises significant concerns from the cruise industry about the long-term sustainability of travel to Mexican ports.
