What It's Like to Hike the Great Wall of China
Briefly

The author recounts a mostly solitary hike along the Great Wall of China at Jinshanling, chosen for its stunning views and distance from tourist crowds. After a cable car ride, the scenic beauty of the Wall left them breathless, with the serenity of the landscape enhancing the experience. The couple relished the peacefulness, walking for hours in silence, away from souvenir vendors and selfie-takers. This less-traveled section allowed them to enjoy a rare moment of solitude amidst the grandeur of one of the world's most famous landmarks.
...the first glimpse of the Wall - a thin line of grayish-brown stone snaking into the horizon on either side - took my breath away.
As we walked on, it became quieter and wilder at the same time, until we eventually had the Wall to ourselves.
I had chosen to go later in the day so we could stay up to see the sunset from the top of the Wall.
We hiked in silence for a couple of hours, up and down steep steps and flat expanses, finally turning back at a point where the Wall had caved in.
