Wetherspoons aims to reopen The Barking Dog pub in Barking, which has been closed since April 2022 due to the redevelopment of Trocoll House. The project has faced delays after Henry Construction, the original contractor, went into administration. Although Wetherspoons does not have a specified reopening date, they reaffirmed their commitment to the site, pending completion of the redevelopment. Be First, overseeing the regeneration, is working with new contractor Railpen to expedite the construction timeline, which directly affects the pub's future opening plans.
When asked about the reopening, a spokesperson for the pub chain stated, "Wetherspoon is committed to reopening the pub. There are no timescales as yet as it depends on the date the developer hands over the site to Wetherspoon."
Be First initially stated that it would take two years to complete the 28-storey development, after which Wetherspoons aims to reopen the pub at the same site.
A spokesperson for Barking and Dagenham's regeneration arm confirmed that the construction delay occurred after original contractor Henry Construction entered administration.
Be First is working diligently with Railpen to ensure the redevelopment of Trocoll House is completed as soon as possible, which will impact the timeline for the pub's reopening.
