This initiative is not purely about launching robotaxis; it will include manual operators as part of a small-scale experiment to gather data on how the self-driving technology adapts to varying local driving habits and weather conditions. The goal is to test the system in environments that pose unique challenges, enhancing its performance before broader implementation. Additional cities for testing include Miami, Austin, and Atlanta.
To that point, Las Vegas is known for dense traffic and plenty of chaos surrounding drop-off zones near hotels and casinos.
So what we're looking for is places that are going to challenge our system and look very, very different.
