Waymo is sending autonomous vehicles to Japan for first international tests
Briefly

Waymo's autonomous vehicles are deploying in Tokyo to collect data on local driving conditions, including left-hand traffic, and managing a partnership with local taxi operator Nihon Kotsu.
"While we look forward to bringing the life-saving benefits of the Waymo Driver global, we have no plans to serve riders in Tokyo at this time," said Waymo spokesperson Sandy Karp.
The partnership with popular taxi app GO indicates Waymo's strategy to integrate its autonomous vehicles into existing local transportation networks, similar to its arrangements in the U.S.
Waymo currently operates around 700 vehicles across cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles, aiming to expand service through partnerships and to launch in Miami by 2026.
