Long-delayed plans for a memorial to the victims of the Pulse shooting in Orlando are progressing. The Pulse Memorial Advisory Committee has approved a conceptual plan involving a reflection space and a reflection pool decorated with a rainbow heart logo. Surrounding this pool will be 49 canopy columns honoring the victims, linked by rainbow-colored glass. Orlando City Commissioner Patty Sheehan expressed relief over the building's demolition, viewing it as necessary for community healing and a fitting tribute to those affected by the tragedy.
"It was a thoughtful process that involved those most impacted, the families and survivors," said Orlando City Commissioner Patty Sheehan, the out Orlando leader who long represented the neighborhood where Pulse once operated.
"I am personally relieved they are tearing the building down," Sheehan said. "It was a gaping wound on this community, and a reminder of the mismanagement of One Pulse Foundation.
