Village riding school and stables could be bulldozed for new homes
Briefly

Plans to convert the Havering Park Riding School include the demolition of 13 outdated structures and the construction of eight new homes in the area. The existing building will be preserved and converted into two flats, alongside a family home. A planning statement submitted by Savills argues that the new development will respect the site’s character without adversely affecting the green belt. Although the riding school ceased operations, the grounds are still used for livery services. The planning application was acknowledged by Havering Council at the end of January.
The proposals compromise the demolition of 13 buildings, which are of poor quality and unsuitable for conversion, while retaining the existing locally listed building.
The site was previously a riding school and is still used as a livery yard, but the operational activities have ceased, prompting the development proposal.
The plans aim to develop eight new homes, including three four-bedroom and three five-bedroom units, while also providing associated infrastructure and car parking.
The development of properties on green belt land is justified as it will not cause substantial harm to the openness of the area.
