Captain Nguyen Thanh Bien described a harrowing ordeal endured by his crew at sea, detailing a violent attack by 40 men with metal rods, leaving him injured and unconscious.
The South China Sea Chronicle Initiative reported that another Vietnamese fishing boat experienced a similar attack, losing significant equipment and around 3.5 tons of fish, highlighting the ongoing dangers faced by Vietnamese fishermen.
Vietnam's Foreign Ministry expressed strong condemnation of the attacks, stating that the nation is "indignant and resolutely protests the brutal treatment by Chinese law enforcement forces of Vietnamese fishermen."
The Philippines also condemned the violence, with National Security Adviser Eduardo Ano emphasizing that "fishermen, as vulnerable maritime workers, deserve protection – not harm – at sea."
