Video. Sri Lanka closes schools as floods hammer the capital

Heavy downpours over the weekend have wreaked havoc in many parts of the country, flooding homes, fields, and roads, profoundly impacting daily life and safety.
According to the country's Disaster Management Centre, three people drowned, and around 134,000 individuals have been adversely affected by the recent severe flooding.
Authorities have evacuated nearly 7,000 people and damaged 240 houses as a result of the rains. Electricity has been cut as a precautionary measure.
Sri Lanka has faced continuous severe weather conditions since May, largely due to heavy monsoon rains, with significant impact observed in previous months as well.
