The National Highway Safety Administration has opened an investigation into Tesla's Full Self-Driving system due to multiple crashes occurring in low-visibility conditions.
Investigators will explore the ability of Full Self-Driving to detect and respond to reduced roadway visibility, following reports of crashes including one that resulted in a pedestrian's death.
Tesla reiterated that its Full Self-Driving system cannot operate independently and requires human drivers to remain prepared to intervene at any moment.
The investigation encompasses approximately 2.4 million Tesla vehicles between the 2016 and 2024 model years, reflecting concerns about safety in challenging conditions.
