"The RSF and allied militias have systematically murdered men and boys—even infants—on an ethnic basis, and deliberately targeted women and girls for rape and other forms of brutal sexual violence," Blinken said, highlighting the severity of the atrocities committed in Sudan.
"Based on this information, I have now concluded that members of the RSF and allied militias have committed genocide in Sudan," stated Blinken, emphasizing the U.S. government's strong condemnation of the ongoing violence.
The sanctions, which specifically target RSF leader Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, were described by the U.S. State Department as a response to his role in systematic atrocities against the Sudanese people.
The sanctions also implicated several businesses in the UAE that allegedly handle gold smuggled out of Sudan, an indication of the broader implications of regional support for the RSF.
