The United States has imposed sanctions on Abdel Rahman Juma Barkalla, blaming him for overseeing the violence against civilians in Sudan since May 2023.
Barkalla has been accused of leading a violent campaign in West Darfur with credible allegations of sexual and ethnically motivated violence against local populations.
The US Treasury Department stated that Barkalla was involved in the kidnapping and killing of Khamis Abbaka, the governor of the region.
