The US Department of Transportation has fined JetBlue $2 million for persistent flight delays, marking the first penalty of its kind for chronic delays on specific routes.
DOT defines chronic delays as flights arriving more than 30 minutes late over 50% of the time, stating JetBlue operated four such flights repeatedly despite warnings.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg emphasized that this action serves as a warning to the airline industry, ensuring flight schedules must be realistic and dependable for travelers.
JetBlue's spokesperson argued the airline had invested significantly to reduce delays, resulting in improved on-time performance, though the agency held them accountable for past issues.
