Undersea cable advisory board arises as cut cable repaired
Briefly

"Submarine cables carry over 99 percent of international data exchanges, making their resilience a global imperative," commented ITU secretary-general Doreen Bogdan-Martin. The emphasis on the importance of robust telecom infrastructure highlights the critical nature of their maintenance and protection.
The International Telecommunication Union and the International Cable Protection Committee announced the creation of a submarine cable resilience advisory board to promote best practices for repairing the cables quickly and effectively.
Despite suspicions of sabotage, the ITU's report shows that most cable damage comes from accidental human activities, with 150 to 200 faults requiring repair each year. This underlines the need for a dedicated governing body.
With an average of three undersea cable repairs each week around the globe, the newly formed board aims to enhance the continuity of communication services and mitigate risks associated with cable faults.
