'Unbelievable damage' to Brendan Courtney's new home after car ploughs through front wall
"I literally spent my entire life savings on this house. So basically, a very nice old woman ploughed into the front of my house tonight. Smashed the wall, the wall flew across the street, smashed into my car, smashed into the house, has done unbelievable damage."
"She's 84, she's really shook. She hit the the accelerator instead of the brake, took off into the air, hit the kerb and went through the front wall, through my front door. I was in the other room with the dog. It's the maddest thing, I was only back from holiday two hours. I wasn't even going to be here, I was going to stay on in Athens."
"She was really shaken, and I brought her in and made her a cup of tea. The cops were brilliant, fire brigade, ambulance, everybody came, but she's fine. She's OK, bless her."
A car driven by a woman in her 80s ploughed into the front of Mr Courtney's newly renovated Wicklow house, destroying a recently built front wall and damaging a car and the home. Mr Courtney had spent his life savings on the property and was inside with his dog; he initially thought an explosion had occurred. The driver reportedly hit the accelerator instead of the brake, launched over a kerb and went through the front door. Emergency services, including police, fire brigade and ambulance, responded. The elderly driver was shaken but uninjured and was offered tea at the house.
