Ukraine's recent environmental disaster in the Black Sea, caused by the sinking of sanctions-busting oil tankers, highlights the urgent need for international action against Russia.
According to satellite data, about 3,000 tonnes of heavy fuel oil leaked into the Black Sea after the Volgoneft-212 tanker sank, marking a significant environmental crisis.
Podolyak criticized the use of outdated tankers in harsh conditions, stating they were part of a shadow fleet exploiting loopholes to bypass sanctions imposed on Russia.
Despite the severe pollution being termed the worst this century for the Black Sea region, Podolyak argued that sanctions against Russian tankers have come too late.
