Heavy rains in the mountainous district of Bulambuli, eastern Uganda, triggered landslides that submerged dozens of homes, resulting in at least 15 fatalities and over 100 missing.
The Uganda Red Cross reports that about 40 homes have been completely destroyed while others have sustained partial damage, indicating the scale of devastation in the region.
Rescue efforts are ongoing as authorities fear that the death toll may rise with more than 100 people still unaccounted for after the landslide disaster.
This tragic incident highlights the recurring threat of landslides in Uganda, particularly in the Mount Elgon region, which has experienced devastating mudslides in the past.
