Caio Machado reflects on his transition to light heavyweight, which was always part of his plan. Post-COVID, he felt stuck and now sees the move as timely for correcting his course in the UFC.
Machado articulated the struggle of being at a size disadvantage in heavyweight, stating: "After my last two fights - I felt both were tight decisions - the biggest things I felt like I had a disadvantage with is the size, so I decided instead of being a smaller heavyweight, I would be a big light heavyweight."
Discussing the UFC's agreement on his transition, he noted: "When I said no to the fight, they said that's a good fight for you, but if you want to wait a bit longer, why don't you go 205lbs?" His foresight led to a successful agreement to fight in a new weight class.
Machado emphasized his readiness for his debut in a new division: "Second round KO. The second he starts trying to get me out, he's going to make a mistake and I'm going to find that chin."
