Ubisoft’s latest game, Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles, requires players to purchase NFTs to be competitive, reflecting ongoing skepticism about the viability of NFT-based gaming.
Despite launching a year ago and aiming to integrate NFTs into gaming, Ubisoft’s Quartz platform has seen limited success, with only 18 NFTs sold initially. Their first entry into NFTs with Ghost Recon Breakpoint drew heavy criticism, with 35,000 dislikes on YouTube.
The game provides free temporary figurines but players will need to invest significantly into NFTs for competitive play, with the highest figurine priced at $63,000.
Ubisoft's Quartz NFT platform was met with backlash upon its launch, as many consumers and employees raised concerns about its environmental impact and the overall necessity of NFTs.
