'Two sound women' - RTE Morning Ireland presenters Mary Wilson and Aine Lawlor announce retirement
""Thank you for your professionalism, your dedication, your commitment to the important role in public service broadcasting. Most of all, for being lovely colleagues. "You're two sound, decent women, so thank you,""
""Always sharp, informed and professional - you will both be missed. Thank you for your contribution to public service broadcasting,""
""More hillwalking, bagging another Monro (a Scottish term for climbing mountains of 1000 metres [over 3000 ft]), more cooking, more trips to Kerry and above all, more time with family and friends. It has been a privilege to present news programmes on RTÉ, to connect with listeners and to work with demanding, intelligent and dedicated colleagues who helped and challenged me every day to do better, to aim higher and to always put the listener first,""
Mary Wilson retires from public broadcasting after a 36-year career with RTÉ, having joined the newsroom in Dublin in 1990. She served as Legal Affairs Correspondent, editor, and became the first presenter of Radio One's Drivetime in 2006. Wilson returned to Morning Ireland in 2020, having started at the programme as a reporter. She plans to retire to enjoy hobbies including hillwalking, bagging another Monro, cooking, trips to Kerry, and more time with family and friends. Áine Lawlor presented her final show as Morning Ireland presenter. Colleagues and political figures, including Des Cahill and Taoiseach Micheál Martin, paid tribute.
