Turkish ship carrying hazardous waste blocked by Albanian authorities
Briefly

The Turkish-flagged Moliva XA443A ship was prevented from docking in Albania due to suspicions of carrying 102 containers of hazardous waste, particularly steel industry byproducts.
After receiving a whistleblower tip, the Basel Action Network reported that the shipment contained about 2,100 metric tonnes of waste pollution control filter dust, triggering immediate actions from Albanian authorities.
Prime Minister Edi Rama defended the shipment, stating it contained iron oxide, which is not classified as toxic waste under European regulations, although the opposition raised concerns about illegal trafficking.
Following Thailand's refusal to accept the shipment and a series of stopovers in several European ports, the ship was eventually stopped from returning to Albania following environmental safety alerts.
