A powerful 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck Vanuatu's capital, Port Vila, causing initial tsunami warnings which have now been lifted, with no immediate reports of injuries or fatalities.
The earthquake struck 30 kilometers west of Port Vila at a depth of 57.1 kilometers and was followed by a magnitude 5.5 aftershock nearby.
Footage on social media showed significant damage including buckled windows and collapsed concrete pillars at buildings housing foreign missions in the capital.
Authorities in New Zealand and Australia confirmed there was no tsunami threat to their countries, advising those in the affected area to move to higher ground.
