Trump's Panama Canal ambitions gain traction in GOP-led Senate
Briefly

President Trump's allies in the Senate are responding to his recent comments about the Panama Canal by pushing for a resolution that encourages Panama to sever its ties with China. Sen. Eric Schmitt plans to introduce this nonbinding resolution, aiming to signal Congress's alignment with Trump's foreign policy goals. Panama's leadership, however, asserts its sovereignty over the canal, emphasizing that its territorial integrity is non-negotiable. The discussion highlights the ongoing geopolitical tensions between the U.S. and China and the complexities of U.S.-Panama relations.
This is an opportunity, I think, for Panama to do the right thing. They've now heard what President Trump has to say, and I hope they hear what the United States Senate has to say.
Every square meter of the Panama Canal and its adjacent area belong to PANAMA, and will continue to be. The sovereignty and independence of our country are not negotiable.
