The US Supreme Court ruled most of President Donald Trump's tariffs illegal, potentially halting his flagship trade policy while Trump says he will pursue tariffs under other statutes. The ruling could provide an unexpected reprieve for countries and sectors affected by the tariffs. European leaders responded cautiously, with French President Emmanuel Macron noting the importance of checks on power and France saying it will consider consequences of Trump's announced 10% global tariff. The German government and the European Commission said they are in close contact with the US to obtain clarifications on next steps. The decision has created deep uncertainty over ratification of the EU–US trade agreement.
