President Trump declared February 8 as Gulf of America Day, formally announcing a name change for the Gulf of Mexico during his flight to Super Bowl LIX. This executive order initiates the process for the name change, with the Department of the Interior tasked to finalize it within a month. The renaming aligns with Trump's vision for restoring American pride, as illustrated by his first visit to the newly named Gulf of America and his emphasis on commemorating this change as a momentous occasion for the nation.
Today, I am making my first visit to the Gulf of America since its renaming. As my Administration restores American pride in the history of American greatness, it is fitting and appropriate for our great Nation to come together and commemorate this momentous occasion and the renaming of the Gulf of America, Trump stated in the order.
The proclamation signing took place on Air Force One while Trump was passing over the soon-to-be-renamed gulf. The executive order gives the Department of the Interior a month to take all appropriate action needed to officially make the gulf name change.
