Trump pardons founder of Silk Road website
Briefly

President Trump has granted a full pardon to Ross Ulbricht, the founder of Silk Road, a notorious platform for illegal drug sales. Ulbricht was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2015 after a significant trial that underscored the challenges of regulating online illegal markets. Trump described the sentence as "ridiculous" and framed the conviction as part of broader governmental overreach. This pardon aligns with Trump's recent use of his executive clemency powers in his second term, while libertarian activists, who label Ulbricht a political prisoner, celebrate this moment as a victory for their cause.
It was my pleasure to have just signed a full and unconditional pardon of her son, Ross. The scum that worked to convict him were some of the same lunatics who were involved in the modern day weaponization of government against me.
Ross Ulbricht has been a libertarian political prisoner for more than a decade. I'm proud to say that saving his life has been one of our top priorities and that has finally paid off.
