Donald Trump's recent executive order established the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which has diverged from the initial vision of operating independently from the government. While it was intended to advise on regulatory rollback and spending reductions, DOGE is now fully integrated with the White House and tasked with updating government IT systems. Experts express disappointment over its limited scope but acknowledge that this focus may enhance its ability to achieve its goals. The organization replaces the US Digital Service and will require federal agencies to appoint teams to collaborate with it.
I was disappointed to see the limited scope that DOGE is now responsible for," said Romina Boccia, the director of budget and entitlements policy at the libertarian Cato Institute. "On the bright side, it may mean that it will be more likely to actually fulfill its mandate because it's more targeted.
I think it's noteworthy that the announcement calls for an HR specialist, an attorney, an IT specialist, and then an overall manager to be placed in each of the applicable agencies," Craig Saperstein stated.
