Tribeca galleries damaged in two-alarm fire
Briefly

On January 22, a two-alarm fire erupted in Tribeca, New York, affecting spaces at 45 White Street. Originating in a nearby building's basement, the blaze caused significant disruptions, especially to The Journal Gallery, whose co-owner reported damage from firefighting efforts despite the gallery being spared from flames. This incident comes at a tough time for the gallery, which recently opened an exhibition and dealt with delays due to wildfires in Los Angeles. The fire took four hours to extinguish, injuring two firefighters, while its cause remains undetermined.
According to a New York City Fire Department report obtained by Hyperallergic, the fire took four hours to extinguish and two firefighters sustained minor injuries.
The Journal Gallery's co-owner Michael Nevin highlighted "significant damage" from firefighters, even though the flames did not reach the gallery itself.
