Treasury inspector general will investigate DOGE payments access
Briefly

Two government watchdogs have initiated investigations into the Department of Government Efficiency's access to sensitive Treasury payment systems following concerns raised by Senate Democrats. The Treasury Deputy Inspector General revealed that an audit has begun to evaluate whether the access controls were adequate and if only appropriate payments were executed. The inquiry will seek to ascertain the nature of information accessed by DOGE staffers, their clearances, and safeguards against conflicts of interest relating to Elon Musk's enterprises. The audit is expected to conclude in August but will provide updates if critical issues arise sooner.
[W]e recognize the danger that improper access or inadequate controls can pose to the integrity of sensitive payment systems.
The IG's office expects the audit to be completed in August, but promised to give 'interim updates' should they discover 'critical issues' before then.
