Trains delayed due to 'nationwide fault' with comms system | Computer Weekly
Briefly

A nationwide fault with the onboard radio communications system for train drivers and signal operators caused significant disruptions across the UK's rail network, according to National Rail.
The GSM-R failure was linked to the installation of new hardware at a telecommunications hub, impacting the automated login process and leading to train registration issues.
To resolve the issue, staff implemented a manual 'wild card' connection, which, while effective, caused delays of up to 15 minutes for many trains.
Although National Rail quickly fixed the problem in about three hours, residual timetable disruptions may persist as services gradually return to normal.
