Tom Basden Would Reunite the Smiths If He Could
Briefly

In 'The Ballad of Wallis Island', Tim Key plays Charles, a lottery winner who uses his fortune to force his favorite band to reunite on an isolated island. The film, co-written by Key and Tom Basden, tackles the distasteful nature of wealth while ensuring that the characters are relatable and engaging. Key emphasizes the importance of making the audience care about the characters despite the ethically questionable premise. The film discusses societal themes of wealth and personal ambition, all while encapsulating humorous elements found at past film festivals like Sundance.
I'd like to put the Smiths back together; they certainly wouldn't do anything together again. Yeah, those guys haaaaaate one another.
The trick to making this a comedy and not yet another 'evil one-percent guy traps randos on an island' movie was making everyone worth caring about.
You root for the guy, even though you're like, 'He can't just buy someone,' so we needed to make the characters fully formed.
I wouldn't mind having a look at Buddy Holly; let's get Buddy down.
