Three firefighters injured while battling four-alarm South Jamaica fire: FDNY - QNS

A four-alarm fire erupted on Sunday morning in South Jamaica, injuring three firefighters. Around 170 FDNY personnel responded to the scene at 6:15 a.m. The firefighters deployed five hose lines to combat the flame and used saws to cut into the roof for smoke management. Although extensive searches of the buildings were conducted, they yielded no further casualties. The fire was declared under control by 8 a.m. The injured firefighters were taken to Jamaica Hospital. Fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire.
Approximately 170 FDNY personnel responded to the fire, which began at approximately 6:15 a.m. on Aug 10, using five hose lines to knock down the main body of the fire.
Firefighters also used saws to cut multiple holes in the roof and alleviate the massive smoke conditions. Searches throughout the buildings were negative.
The incident left three firefighters with various serious, but life-threatening injuries, according to the FDNY. Paramedics removed them to Jamaica Hospital for evaluation.
Fire marshals are working to determine the cause of the fire.
