"to send a clear and unified message of respect for Greenland's democracy and fundamental human rights,"
"I am very grateful for the huge support we as Greenlanders receive... We are also sending a message to the world that you all must wake up,"
"Greenland and the Greenlanders have involuntarily become the front in the fight for democracy and human rights,"
"against the United States' illegal plans to take control of Greenland."
Massive demonstrations by Greenlandic associations took place across Denmark and Greenland to protest US intentions toward Greenland. Thousands gathered in Copenhagen, chanting "Greenland is not for sale" and marching toward the US embassy. Protests also occurred in Aarhus, Aalborg, Odense, and Nuuk. In Nuuk several thousand protesters, including Greenland's prime minister, waved Greenlandic flags, sang traditional Inuit songs, and wore caps reading "Make America Go Away." Organizers framed the protests as opposition to perceived illegal US plans and as a call to defend Greenlandic democracy, sovereignty, and fundamental human rights.
