Gauss emphasized the potential upside for airBaltic in the wake of a peace agreement, highlighting their unique position as the last airline out of Ukraine and poised to be the first to return once hostilities cease.
He pointed out that while the war initially hampered the airline due to reduced passenger flows from Ukraine and Russia, tourism in the Baltic countries has rebounded, as fears of invasion have waned.
Gauss also discussed ongoing airspace restrictions, stating that the detours necessary due to overflying restrictions have created significant logistical challenges and increased operational costs for the airline.
He noted that finding alternative flight paths is complex, referencing the narrow corridor available between Belarus and the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad, which complicates southern routes from the Baltics.
