""The coming winter is going to be difficult for many customers and we believe that this announcement will reassure both existing and new customers that they can have predictability about energy costs for the coming months," Mr Fay said."
"Tánaiste Simon Harris said recently he believed there could be a "degree of price-gouging by energy companies in the market"."
More than one million households will be affected by energy price rises this month as suppliers including Energia, Bord Gáis Energy and Pinergy raise prices. SSE Airtricity is increasing electricity prices this month, marking its second hike this year, and Flogas raised electricity prices in August. Several suppliers are freezing prices for winter: Yuno Energy (65,000 customers), PrepayPower (240,000 customers) and Electric Ireland (1.1 million customers for electricity, plus a 4% gas price cut). Yuno Energy states dual-fuel customers could save up to €945 based on average usage. The Government will not introduce universal energy credits in Budget 2026, increasing customer price sensitivity.
