'There's only one show in town' - Fianna Fail and Fine Gael favour Independents for coalition over Labour Party

"Fine Gael backbenchers are insisting on a rotating taoiseach arrangement if they do enter into a coalition with Fianna Fáil, with some also believing there should be an even split of portfolios between the two parties."

"However, in Fianna Fáil, TDs believe their party should have more ministries as it finished 10 seats ahead of Fine Gael in the general election, with specific interests in retaining the housing portfolio and controlling the Department of Justice."

"There is a growing consensus in both parties that governing with an Independent grouping currently being organised by Galway East TD Seán Canney is the preferred option, as concerns arise over the policies proposed by Independent Ireland."
