NASA reports that the moon will appear full from Tuesday evening through Friday morning, with optimal visibility during the brief window from Wednesday evening to Thursday morning.
"It is something that people can see, even if they live in a city, it's really easy to observe. You don't need special equipment," says Jennifer L. Hoffman, director of the Chamberlin Observatory.
The moon reaches perigee at approximately 8:50 p.m. ET on Wednesday, being 221,938 miles away, about 17,000 miles closer than average, which contributes significantly to its brightness.
The best times to experience the supermoon are during moonrise on Wednesday and Thursday, where its size may appear larger due to the presence of buildings or trees nearby.
