Francisco Araujo Maciel, 45, thought he was dying as a falling tree trunk crushed him, sparking a lengthy and perilous rescue through the Amazon.
Rescue teams told Araujo he was lucky to survive, initially fearing he had serious injuries, including a punctured lung, after the tree fell on him.
Over 50 people were rescued from illegal deforestation operations in the Amazon, often at the hands of criminal groups exploiting vulnerable communities for labor.
Labor inspectors revealed the workers faced conditions akin to modern slavery, as promises made to them vanished upon arriving at the illegal work sites.
