'The old peaked ones tended to get knocked off' - new baseball-style caps set to give gardai 'street style'
Briefly

An Garda Síochána has unveiled a new baseball-style cap bearing the gold Garda crest, aimed at improving practicality for everyday operational duties. The traditional peaked cap will still be worn during formal occasions. GRA president Mark O'Meara praises the change as a step forward that aligns the police uniform with contemporary European counterparts. Additionally, a new thermal gilet has been introduced due to officer feedback regarding cold weather issues with the previous uniform. These changes reflect the evolving demands of modern policing, ensuring officers are equipped appropriately.
Modern policing is more complex than ever before, and while responding to fast-paced, evolving and dynamic situations, the traditional cap could be cumbersome and was prone to getting knocked off.
The uniform with the new cap moves with the times and brings us into line with many of our counterparts in other European jurisdictions.
