The skeleton of a giant herbivorous apatosaurus, measuring 22 metres long, was sold for six million euros at auction, with the buyer promising to display it in a museum.
Auctioneers declared it "the biggest dinosaur ever sold at auction worldwide," bringing significant attention to both the size and scope of the paleontological market.
The skeletal remains, which make up 75-80% of the original bones and are around 150 million years old, were excavated in Wyoming and restored in France.
Under the sale contract, the new owner is committed to granting paleontologists access to the fossil for further study, emphasizing the importance of scientific collaboration.
