The Irish Independent's View: The tone of Donald Trump's inauguration will signal what's to come for the US and rest of the world
Briefly

Trump's inaugural address at the start of his first term eight years ago was not a portrayal of optimism. He made an unapologetically populist and nationalistic speech, headlining with the phrase "America First" as he signalled how he would govern in his first term. America and the world will be watching to see what his take is this time and whether his term in office will be as seemingly chaotic as his first four years.
In his final address to the nation, outgoing president Joe Biden warned of the growing power of America's ultra-wealthy, and cautioned that an emerging oligarchy threatened the foundations of US democracy. Trump holds no such qualms about his new friends in the 'broligarchy'.
The welcome ceasefire coming into effect in Gaza yesterday was unquestionably influenced by the new US president and neither side wanting to take their chances with his irrational whims. Next up, this continent will be observing his attitude towards the war in Ukraine and the future of Nato as Russia's aggression starts a new Cold War - with or without American involvement.
Nonetheless, Trump will find space in the Rotunda of Capitol Hill for the big tech CEOs now aiming to seek his favour, including Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Tim Cook and Sundar Pichai.
