The head of the FEC is defying Trump's attempt to fire her
Briefly

Ellen Weintraub, chairwoman of the Federal Election Commission, announced via social media that President Donald Trump has made an attempt to fire her. Despite having a dismissal letter from Trump, she asserts that this action is illegal, emphasizing that there is a proper procedure for replacing FEC commissioners. Weintraub has been with the agency since 2002, and although her term expired in 2007, she has continued her service, recently being elected chair for a fourth time. The FEC, which oversees federal election laws, declined to comment on the matter.
Received a letter from POTUS today purporting to remove me as Commissioner & Chair of FEC. There's a legal way to replace FEC commissioners-this isn't it.
I've been lucky to serve the American people & stir up some good trouble along the way. That's not changing anytime soon.
