"GardaĆ­ and emergency services rushed to the scene at around 8.20pm on the Slane Road (N51). The car involved failed to remain at the scene. The teenage girl was treated at the scene before being transferred to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, where she was later pronounced dead. A man in his 20s was subsequently arrested by gardai and is currently detained at a garda station in the eastern region."
"Members of the Garda Forensic Collision Investigation unit worked to gather forensic evidence at the scene this morning, laying yellow marker boards along a long stretch of the road. At one marker at the point of the scene closest to the town a section of what looks like part of a plastic car grille could be seen on the footpath."

A 16-year-old girl was struck on the Slane Road (N51) near Navan; she was treated at the scene, taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital and later pronounced dead. A man in his 20s was arrested and detained. Local residents and forensic teams worked at the scene.
