In early 1991, St Etienne was inspired by dance hits to create a club-friendly track. They produced a demo featuring Sarah Cracknell but faced challenges due to contractual obligations. Unable to sign with Arista because of their existing label, they re-recorded the song with Janey Lee Grace. Their alias, Cola Boy, gained popularity, leading to the need for live performances. Despite their excitement about appearing on Top of the Pops, they were denied entry to the studio, marking a bittersweet moment in their career.

When Cola Boy went on Top of the Pops, Pete and I just assumed we'd be able to stroll in, but they wouldn't let us into the studio.
