"Significant numbers may be without supply for a number of days. Due to the severity and significant scale of the damage some customers could be without power for approximately a week," an ESB statement read.
"We acknowledge the disruption to family and commercial life this causes, and thank customers across the country, especially those who will remain without power over the coming days, for their patience as crews work to safely restore power."
Met Éireann has said, while some who have been left without power by Storm Darragh could be waiting to have it restored for up to a week.
"Today will be breezy and fresh and while most of the country will remain dry, there will be a few showers in Ulster."
