Storm Bram: 22,000 without power as Met Eireann extends Status Orange warnings to entire country; major disruption to road and air travel
"Very strong winds to gale force with some damaging gusts expectedThe strongest winds will be near coasts & where high tides coincide with onshore winds some coastal flooding will occur too Persistent & heavy outbreaks of rain may lead to flooding, especially in S areas pic.twitter.com/mCctza39by Met Eireann (@MetEireann) December 9, 2025 Ferries will not run at Holyhead Port until after 3pm today due to Storm Bram. Met Eireann has warned of near-gale to gale-force winds, with storm-force and violent storm-force gusts."
""As a result of this forecast, we have advised ferry operators that the port will close from 06:00 to 15:00 on 09 December to ensure the safety of all operations," said Holyhead Port. Separately, Terminal 5 at Holyhead Port remains closed as severe weather conditions continue to prevent a full assessment of the berth structure. "The terminal will remain closed until inspections are complete and a detailed structural engineering report confirms it is safe to reopen the terminal."
Strong winds associated with Storm Bram are expected to reach near-gale to violent storm-force gusts, with the strongest winds near coasts and a risk of coastal flooding where onshore winds coincide with high tides. Persistent heavy rain may cause inland flooding, particularly in southern areas. Holyhead Port was closed to ferry operations from 06:00 to 15:00 and ferries will not run until after 15:00. Terminal 5 at Holyhead remains closed pending structural inspections, with an estimated 45-day timeframe for a full assessment. One Aer Lingus flight from Ireland West Airport Knock to London Heathrow (EI91) was cancelled. Retailers in Galway opened but may reassess as the storm makes landfall. Met Eireann issued a Status Orange Wind warning.
