Marilyn Kativjo, who works at the Shops At Atlas Mall and a local cat rescue, described finding the dying pitbull: 'I saw she was bleeding and very raw...She was in bad condition.'
Kativjo expressed her belief that the dog was a victim of unethical breeding, saying, 'She was probably used for breeding, sold off her puppies, and they had no use for her.'
Upon discovering the injured dog, Kativjo reached out for help: 'I was able to take the pictures, and I called Stephanie Castro, the founder of Meow Squad...I need your help.'
Local officials responded quickly, with Council Members Holden and Ariola alerting the 104th Precinct, ACC, and local rescues, demonstrating the community's active involvement in animal welfare.
