South Wales residents displaced by sinkhole fear they may not return by Christmas
Briefly

The sinkhole in Pant, Merthyr Tydfil, expanded from 30cm to 5 metres wide and 12 metres deep after the culvert collapse, resulting in 29 homes evacuated.
John Mitchell, a resident displaced by the sinkhole, expressed fear for his safety, stating, 'It is frightening. You don't know what will happen with the water going under there.'
As Storm Bert raged, residents heard rumblings mistaken for thunder, which were later believed to be precursor sounds of the developing sinkhole.
The council hopes residents can return home by Christmas, but the timeline remains uncertain as engineers assess the damage and 'the hole just gradually got worse.'
