SMU coach Rhett Lashlee criticized the December transfer portal, calling it 'terrible' for players who face decisions about transferring or competing in the playoffs.
Lashlee emphasized, 'There's no other sport at all that has free agency in the season... He shouldn't have to make that decision,' referring to the pressure on players.
He suggested eliminating the December portal window, stating, 'Why in the world would we put kids in a position where they've got to decide...' stressing the difficulty of this decision.
Lashlee argued for re-evaluating the college football calendar, noting, 'our years end in May, not in December,' highlighting the academic implications.
