Shiffrin won't defend GS world title after PTSD struggle' following crash
Briefly

Mikaela Shiffrin has announced she is struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder following a crash that led to a severe injury in November. Shiffrin, who holds a record 99 World Cup wins, experienced a deep puncture wound during a giant slalom race, which has left her unable to defend her gold medal at the upcoming Alpine skiing world championships. She expressed feeling mentally blocked and grappling with unexpected psychological struggles. Despite her injury, she has returned to competition yet feels heartbroken about not racing at her best.
I'm mentally blocked in being able to get to the next level of pace and speed and putting power into the turns, Shiffrin said.
This kind of mental, psychological like PTSD-esque struggle is more than I anticipated.
To be here now and not even be able to start, that's pretty heartbreaking.
Honestly, I really didn't anticipate experiencing so much of this kind of mental/PTSD struggle in GS from my injury.
